Rally vs. Strava: sharing activity and competing with friends

Choosing a social fitness app depends on whether the group wants a weekly competition, an activity goal or a record of workouts.

Publisher and scope

Published by the Rally team. Official sources reviewed on October 20, 2026. Product conditions can change. This is a description of public proposals, not an independent test, price comparison or quality ranking.

What Rally proposes

Rally connects workout logs, groups and a weekly leaderboard. Group activity is visible and a new competitive period opens each week.

Try the complete flow: invite others, save a workout and understand the points. The website calculator explains the current arithmetic without connecting to an account.

Strava’s group challenge proposal

Strava’s official help describes group challenges with a goal and a time period. It also documents challenges based on distance, time, elevation and other criteria depending on the challenge.

Creating group challenges requires a subscription according to the help consulted. Review current creation and participation conditions rather than assuming every participant has the same requirements.

What to decide before inviting friends

Choose what you want to recognize: a personal commitment, accumulated activity or competition under an app’s rules. Different sports can fit an agreement, but everyone needs to understand what counts.

Check phones, logging requirements and any paid functions people need. You do not need to migrate a full history to test whether the group understands its first record.

Try the two approaches

Use a small group, a written agreement and a defined period. Review whether everyone could log and understand the outcome. Group usability is more concrete than declaring a universal winner.
