Running pace calculator: minutes per km and mile

Enter a distance and elapsed time to find average pace. No account, watch connection or upload is needed.

Minutes:seconds or hours:minutes:seconds. Example: 25:00 or 1:05:30.

Calculated in your browser. Distance, time and results are not sent to Analytics.

What a pace result means

Pace is the time needed to cover one unit of distance. A result of 5:00 per km means five minutes per kilometre, not five kilometres per hour. Speed measures distance per hour and is shown separately.

The calculation divides elapsed seconds by distance. One mile is exactly 1.609344 km. Changing units describes the same activity rather than changing the effort.

Example: 5 km in 25 minutes

25 minutes divided by 5 km gives 5:00 min/km. The same pace is approximately 8:03 min/mile and 12 km/h. Maintaining it for 10 km would mathematically take 50 minutes.

The table is not a race prediction. Terrain, stops, conditions and your ability to sustain the effort can change the actual result.

Elapsed time versus moving time

Use a consistent time definition when comparing logs. Elapsed time includes stops; a device may exclude them from moving time. Mixing the two can make different records look comparable.

Check distance and units too. A different distance measurement changes the average even when elapsed time stays the same. This tool calculates your inputs and does not verify GPS accuracy.

Share a workout without prescribing a target

Agree on what each friend wants to share before comparing results. Pace does not measure the value of a workout and does not need to become a target for the whole group.

Rally has its own points rules. Converting pace or distance does not change scoring or add a watch integration. You can log your activity in the app and keep this calculation as a separate reference.
